At Van Gooi, we never stand still. We are constantly looking for better, smarter ways to do our work, using new technologies, software, and forward-thinking systems.

Teamwork

Together, we achieve more. We believe in short lines, down-to-earth collaboration, and challenging each other to improve. Everyone contributes to the result, from technician to engineer.

Are you a technical professional with a passion for automation and commissioning, and do you enjoy working on international project locations? Van Gooi is looking for a Commissioning Engineer Automation, a role in which you bring our high‑quality control panels and automation systems to life.

Most of these systems involve advanced HVAC installations on board luxury yachts, built at leading shipyards across Europe, with a strong focus on Germany.

What will you do?

Make a Difference as a Commissioning Engineer Automation

As a Commissioning Engineer Automation at Van Gooi, you work closely with our Lead Commissioning Engineer and our PLC, HMI, and SCADA software engineers. You ensure that systems function correctly, are thoroughly tested, and are optimally delivered to the customer.

Your daily focus includes:

Spending approximately 50% of your working time abroad, depending on ongoing commissioning projects

Working from our Hilversum office when not on international project sites

Preparing new projects and supporting Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) of control panels on-site in Hilversum

Commissioning Van Gooi control panels and automation systems on board luxury yachts

Checking, testing, configuring, and documenting PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems

Testing and configuring I/O signals and integrating industrial bus systems such as Modbus and Ethernet‑based networks

Identifying and resolving malfunctions during commissioning

Signalling required changes and providing feedback to software developers

Preparing reports for the project department and communicating clearly with fellow engineers

Working regularly abroad, typically Monday to Friday, with occasional longer periods of up to two weeks (including a weekend on site)

Independently executing tasks and taking responsibility for progress and quality of your part of the project

What do you bring?

What You Bring

You have completed a technical education in Electrical Engineering and/or Industrial Automation and have a broad interest or proven experience in automation technology.

In addition, you bring:

Interest in or experience with PLC programming, HMI/SCADA systems, and industrial automation

Affinity with control systems, industrial networks (Modbus, Ethernet), signal technology, and testing procedures

A proactive mindset and strong problem‑solving skills

Good command of the English language, both spoken and written; German is a strong plus

Willingness to work abroad on a regular basis

Independence, a hands‑on mentality, and a strong sense of responsibility

And:

A positive attitude and a sense of humor, you’ll be working with a close and friendly team

An enthusiastic, eager‑to‑learn technician with an eye for detail and a passion for both software and hardware

You want to do more than just program; you want to understand how your code impacts real‑world installations

What you can count on

As a Commissioning Engineer Automation, you can expect a challenging and independent role within a family‑owned company with international appeal. At Van Gooi, we work hard with enjoyment, pragmatism, and a strong focus on quality.

In addition, we offer:

An excellent gross monthly salary between €3,664 and €5,825 based on a 40‑hour workweek, depending on experience

38 vacation days

A varied and autonomous role with strong international exposure

Working within a close‑knit, technically strong team delivering high‑end automation solutions

A role with significant responsibility and room for technical depth

A company lease car, including private use

Flexible working hours and the option to work from home

Unlimited opportunities for learning and development, supported by a personal development plan

A contribution towards a sports membership. No need to become a bodybuilder, a healthy body is a happy body

Experienced colleagues from whom you can learn and enjoy Friday afternoon drinks or social events such as our annual BBQ

An active staff association organizing fun activities every quarter
